David Bennett

David is an experienced professional coach who speaks the language of business. With over 20 years in a variety of management and leadership roles, his transformational coaching helps leaders and managers thrive in a complex and uncertain world by understanding and growing their most important leadership asset: themselves.

Having originally started out his career with KPMG NZ, David has been involved with programme/project management at a senior level for a variety of organisations across a range of sectors (both in NZ and overseas) including infrastructure capital projects, telecommunications, railway construction, civil construction, heavy engineering, manufacturing, business development, broadcasting, and not-for-profit service delivery.

He has worked in the UK, Spain, Brazil, Chile, and Australia; and in large organisations including KPMG, London Underground, Downer and Balfour Beatty, and has a first-hand understanding of the intricacies of working with different national and management cultures.

Specialising in evidence-based, solution-focused practice, he draws on a variety of coaching theories and models to apply scientific rigour to what makes people thrive and excel. Cognitive behavioural coaching, adult development theory and complex adaptive leadership are the main theories underpinning David’s coaching. An advocate of positive psychology, David’s approach is respectfully challenging, motivational and geared towards supporting people to flourish and realise their potential.

Rather than prescribing solutions, his coaching style emphasises process, with the aim of creating tangible outcomes; of facilitating improvement in an individual’s performance in areas of leadership, communications, interpersonal, and cognitive skills that, when to linked to business goals, also make a positive strategic impact on an organisation’s performance.

David believes in helping coaching gain recognition as a profession and is an active member of the International Coach Federation, on the leadership team for the NZ Southern Region, and is currently President of ICF Australasia.
