Craig McDowell

Coach

Craig McDowell is a leadership learning and development coach and facilitator. He has previously been a Leadership and Management Adviser at the University of Canterbury.

Craig has developed a specialisation and high level of knowledge in coaching and mentoring in a variety of sectors – in business and education. Other areas of leadership in which he works include organisational and team development, performance management, adaptive leadership and change, reflective practice, collaboration and emotional intelligence. In addition, he has facilitated numerous professional learning groups of leaders.

Of particular interest to Craig is culturally contextualised leadership; he has been involved in a Maori initiative - Te Kauhua - which emphasised the necessity of whanau and iwi engagement, and the building of productive relationships with stakeholders in order to strengthen outcomes.

Over the last four years with ODI, he has individually coached business leaders and been involved as a leadership coach in two programmes - the Advanced Leaders Programme and Federated Farmers: Advocacy, Influence & Outcomes.

As an experienced educator with wide and varied leadership experience over 25 years in New Zealand, Canada and United States, Craig has presented at national and international conferences. His expertise and enjoyment of experiential learning derives from his extensive outdoor and sporting experiences, including being the School Director of Outward Bound New Zealand.
